My Promise

I will remember me for who I am now today, as for when my body changes, my heart & soul never will. - Deliska

Transitions

2009-10-26:  The beginning of it all.  I remember this picture that Geoff took.  It was the night before my surgery.  I had been on a 3 day liquid diet and had lost already 8 lbs.  I was so nervous.  The decision to have the Roux-en-Y is not to be taking lightly.  The support of close friends and family makes it easier to cope.  Many women and men base their expectations on pictures they see in magazines of how the 'perfect' person looks like.  It is important that if you choose to have this surgery that you realize that your body will be going through a drastic phase and there will be skin sagging.  However, please remember the reason you are choosing to go ahead with the surgery, it is for a happier healthy life.  It will take you a couple of years, give or take, to be able to look in the mirror and see what others are seeing as you transition into the new you.  Seek the psychological attention that you may require if needed.  There is nothing to be ashamed in that.  There is always cosmetic surgery that may or may not be covered my your insurance.  This must also be kept in mind.  If you have chosen this avenue for weight loss, I send you all my love and positive vibe for a wonderfl experience and fabulous results. (280 lbs)

This picture was taken the day I was able to come home.  I knew it was going to be a very long drive back to Canada.  We had to stop every 45 minutes so that I could walk around to avoid any blood clots. Geoff, my husband was so patient with me and didn't mind taking our time as required.  Word of advice, make sure you bring a pillow that you can hug while in the car.  It will help if the road is rough, or if you need to sneeze or cough.  It is important to keep practising the breathing techniques that they show you in the hospital to keep your lungs clear of pneumonia.  Remember to follow the rules that the Bariactric team have given you and to take CARE of your pouch.

White Party - We were invited to a 'white' party.  Everyone had to dress in white, because the dance they were having was neon.  It was alot of fun, great prizes!

Starting to feel alot more confident and even sexy.  Feeling really good about smiling and loving myself.

Loving being able to wear jeans & a belt!  YAY for me!

Having fun with the camera, I have lost half of me.  I am now 140 lbs and I'm so happy about getting my RNY.  I thank Dr Graber's team for their steady hands during the surgery and all their continued support.  I thank my friends and family for their support as well.  Without you, this would have been alot more difficult.  I keep following the rules and I've definetely succeeded in my journey to a healthier life.  I will always remember how it was to be a large woman.  The Transition has been an amazing journey and will never regret taking it.  Keep working hard during your journey as it never ends.  You will struggle with some weight gain every now and again.  Remember the protein rules and to ensure you take all your vitamins.  Never be afraid to call your surgeon's office if you have any questions.  I wish you all success in your journey to a healthier you.  Cheers to Roux-En-Y!
